One village headman was killed and a policeman injured during an anti-insurgency operation carried out by a joint team of police and the army in Assam's Karbi Anglong District.
According to reports, the village headman, Debo Fonglo, was killed in the retaliatory fire by the security forces after the former fired at them during a search operation.
The deceased headman's family have reportedly stated that Fonglo fired at the forces, mistaking them for miscreants.
The search operation was being conducted at Disapur area under Dilai police station.
