Wipro files complaint over threatening letter from unknown source

IT Major Wipro on Saturday registered a complaint with law enforcement authorities in Bengaluru after receiving a threatening e-mail from an anonymous sender on Friday.
Soon after the letter was received, Wipro released a statement saying that a complaint has been filed, adding that all necessary security measures were implemented with immediate effect to ensure the safety of its employees.
"Have filed a complaint with the local law enforcement authorities after receiving a threatening letter from an unidentified source. Have augmented security measures at all our office locations. There is no impact on the company's operations," the statement read.
Meanwhile, via the e-mail, the perpetrators demanded Rs. 500 crore worth currency in bitcoins, through a specified web address by May 25.
On failing to pay the designated amount, the miscreants threatened to spread a toxic protein drug in the company's campus.
Reportedly, the sender disclosed possessing a large amount of high-quality Ricin, a drug known to cause severe damage if consumed or inhaled, which he threatened to release in the campus.
The e-mail also stated that the company would allegedly receive a small amount of this drug as a warning of the repercussions it may face on non-payment of the aforementioned amount.
