Coal, natural gas and petroleum refinery products sector growth contracts
The Eight Core Industries having a combined weight of 37.90% in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 1.6% in January 2014 compared with a growth of 8.3% growth in January 2013 and 2.1% growth in December 2013.Coal production (weight: 4.38 %) declined by 0.7% in January, 2014 over January, 2013. Its cumulative index during April to January, 2013-14 increased by 1.0% over corresponding period of previous year.
Crude Oil production (weight: 5.22%) increased by 3.0% in January, 2014 over January, 2013. The cumulative index of Crude Oil during April to January, 2013-14 declined by 0.3% over the corresponding period of previous year.
The Natural Gas production (weight: 1.71%) declined by 5.2% in January, 2014 over January, 2013. Its cumulative index during April to January, 2013-14 declined by 14.1% over the corresponding period of previous year.
Petroleum refinery production (weight: 5.94%) moderated by 4.5% in January, 2014 over January, 2013. However, its cumulative index during April to January, 2013-14 increased by 1.4% over the corresponding period of previous year.

Fertilizer production (weight: 1.25%) registered a growth of 1.2% in January, 2014 over January, 2013 and it registered a cumulative growth of 2.5% during April to January, 2013-14 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Steel production (weight: 6.68%) recorded a growth rate of 3.4% in January, 2014 over January, 2013. The cumulative growth during April to January, 2013-14 was 4.1% over the corresponding period of previous year.
Cement production (weight: 2.41%) increased by 1.5% in January, 2014 over January, 2013 and its cumulative growth during April to January, 2013-14 was 3.4% over the corresponding period of previous year.
Electricity generation (weight: 10.32%) increased by 5.7% in January, 2014 over the period of January, 2013 and it registered a cumulative growth of 5.2% during April to January, 2013-14 over the corresponding period of previous year.
