Railway revenues decline 0.7% in August 2019

Revenues up 2.7% to Rs 74912.32 crore in April-August 2019
The Indian Railway (IR) has recorded 0.7% decline in its overall revenues to Rs 13844.79 crore in August 2019 over August 2018. The IR revenues had moved up 10.1% to Rs 13945.85 crore in August 2018.The passenger earnings increased 1.8% to Rs 4241.86 crore in August 2019, against 8.4% growth recorded in August 2018. The other coaching revenue rose 10.8% to Rs 386.82 crore, while the revenue from sundry activities declined 47.6% to Rs 318.36 crore in August 2019. However, the earnings from freight traffic, accounting for 64.3% of the total revenue, declined 3.5% to Rs 8897.75 crore in August 2019.
In April-August FY2020, the revenue earnings of IR improved 2.7% to Rs 74912.32 crore, while showing moderation in growth from 6.3% increase recorded in April-August FY2019. Further, the IR revenues have been below the budget target of Rs 82825.85 crore for the above mentioned period. The goods revenue moved up 2.3% to Rs 49159.77 crore, while the passenger revenue increased 5.2% to Rs 22438.31 crore. The other coaching revenue increased 4.1% to Rs 2017.75 crore, while the sundry earnings declined 17.7% to Rs 1296.49 crore in April-August FY2020.
