Sensex, Nifty crash 10%, hit lower circuit

Trading halted for 45 minutes

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 3,090.62 points, or 9.43% at 29,687.52.

The Nifty 50 index was down 966.10 points, or 10.07% at 8,624.05.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index was down 9.19% at 12,934.25.

The Nifty Smallcap 100 index was down 10.84% at 4,164.50.

Among index majors, Reliance Industries (down 10.70% to Rs 948), TCS (down 14.37% to Rs 1515.60), HDFC Bank (down 5.69% to Rs 963.55), Hindustan Unilever (down 7.79% to Rs 1898.90), HDFC (down 5.59% to Rs 1770), ICICI Bank (down 5.19% to Rs 402.95) and Infosys (down 9.90% to Rs 569), slumped.

The market will resume at 10:05 IST for pre-opening session. Normal trading will start from 10:20 IST.
