The Kolkata unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau seized 10 kg of charas worth more than Rs 1 crore in the international market and arrested one smuggler from the India-Nepal border in West Bengal's Darjeeling district, a senior NCB official said on Tuesday.

The seizure happened at Darjeeling district's Panitanki border region during a joint raid by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) troopers of Siliguri Frontier on Monday night.

"A person named Jawed Akhtar (23), a resident of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, was arrested from Darjeeling's Panitanki and 10 kg of charas worth Rs 1.1 crore was seized from him," said NCB Zonal Director Dilip Kumar Srivastava.

According to officials, the seized charas was concealed in the false bottom of a trolley suitcase that Akthar was carrying.

"The accused collected the charas from Nepal's Kathmandu and was supposed to deliver it to an associate in Kolkata. The consignment was supposed to reach Hong Kong from there," the official said.
