The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to legalise sports betting in the country.
In a letter addressed to the PM, AIGF has elucidated how the lack of funds in various sports governing bodies, mainly the non-cricket sports, has affected India's performance on the world stage and how revenue generated by legalising betting in sports can help, an AIGF release said.
AIGF is a not-for-profit organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in Mumbai.
The objectives of AIGF include promotion of sporting and gaming activities as well as urging the state and central governments to regulate gaming/gambling activities and suggesting measures to prevent gambling addiction.
