Congress bypoll candidate slams timing of Modi's J&K visit

G.A. Mir, Congress candidate for the bypoll to Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, on Saturday raised questions over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed visit to the state on April 2.
"The Nashri tunnel is already functional and the state government should have avoided the formal inauguration of this tunnel by the Prime Minister on April 2," he told media on the sidelines of an election meeting in the Shangus assembly segment.
The state government should have postponed the inauguration to any date after April 15 (when the votes will be counted), he added.
Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Nashri-Chenani tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on April 2 and is also likely to address a public rally in Udhampur district on April 2.
Voting for Anantnag constituency is scheduled on April 12 while the bypoll for the Srinagar Parliamentary seat is scheduled on April 9.
