Congress miffed over cops seeking Rahul Gandhi's description

The police have denied asking for details about Gandhi's appearance and called it a routine enquiry

Congress leaders are reportedly upset over a visit by Delhi police officers to the party office in New Delhi seeking details of Rahul Gandhi's physical appearance.

Delhi Police has denied asking for details about Gandhi's appearance and called it a routine enquiry.

According to reports, the police visited the Congress office last week and asked about party Vice President Rahul Gandhi's physical appearance - his height, colour of eyes and hair.

Police said such surveys are conducted at all protected persons' offices from time to time and no personal questions were asked.

According to reports, the Congress has questioned the need for such inquiries, saying that Gandhi already enjoys Z-plus security -- the highest level in the country -- that is provided by the elite Special Protection Group (SPG), which handles security for top political leaders, including the Prime Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, as well as Rahul Gandhi's sister, Priyanka and her family.

The Congress, agitated over Delhi Police's 'intrusive' visit to the party office, has demanded a statement from the government on the issue.

Rahul Gandhi, vice-president of the Congress party, is currently on a sabbatical from active politics and even skipped the crucial Budget session of Parliament. A few weeks ago, however, a Congress politician uploaded photos of him, claiming the Gandhi scion was Uttarakhand.
