CPC expels deputy head of Heilongjiang legislature

IANS Beijing

Senior legislator Gai Ruyin has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from office for abuse of power, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said on Wednesday.

Gai, former deputy head of the Standing Committee of the Heilongjiang provincial People's Congress, was investigated by the CCDI in December, Xinhua reported.

It found that Gai violated party codes of conduct by visiting private clubs and using public money to treat others and to travel and that he attempted to resist the investigation.

He illegally promoted officials and accepted gifts and cash from people in return for seeking benefits from them.

His family members also accepted bribes and "engaged in money-sex deals", which he knew about but ignored, according to the CCDI.

Gai's illegal gains will be confiscated and he may face civil prosecution for accepting bribes, it said.
