Delhi approves pension scheme for self-employed

'Dilli Swavalamban Yojana' will benefit hawkers, domestic helps, rickshaw pullers, autorickshaw drivers, anganwadi workers and self-employed people between 18-60 years, a statement said.
"The workers are required to contribute Rs.1,000 per annum and an equal amount would be contributed by the city and central government," said the statement.
"At the age of 60, the beneficiary would be able to withdraw 60 percent of the amount from his account and from the balance 40 percent amount a pension would be paid to him or her," it added.
In case of the death of the beneficiary, the entire amount would be refunded to the appointed nominee.
To avail the benefit, a worker must be a resident of Delhi for at least three years.
"The step will ensure social security for the workers and their families," said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
