The Delhi government will table the service delivery amendment bill in the upcoming assembly session, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

If the recommendations of the bill are implemented, not delivering services in time may cost Delhi government officials dear and their salaries may be slashed if they fail to deliver services in a time bound manner.

"We will table service delivery amendment bill in this upcoming session. We hope that the recommendations of the bill will be implemented from January 1," he said.

Speaking to a select group of reporters, Kejriwal said: "Under this amendment bill, responsibility of the officers will be fixed in each department if they fail to deliver services within the stipulated time frame."

"The citizen will be provided compensation for the delay. The government will not bear the cost of the compensation as it will be deducted from the salary of the responsible officer," he said.

The chief minister also said that according to the amendment bill, the compensation will be automatically credited to the citizens.
