Egyptian minister arrested over corruption charges

Egypt's agriculture minister was arrested on Monday after he resigned upon a request from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi over an alleged corruption case.
The Egyptian cabinet accepted the resignation of Agriculture Minister Salah Helal shortly before his arrest, Al-Ahram news reported.
The cabinet released a statement saying that the "resignation was accepted".
The resignation is believed to be in the wake of alleged bribery of some officials in the agriculture ministry.
In August, the assistant and director of the agriculture minister's office was arrested and accused of corruption and receiving bribes from businessmen to facilitate the takeover of lands.
