Fake notes of Rs 100 denomination with a face value of Rs 4 lakh were seized from an apartment in this Chhattisgarh city on Wednesday and two persons arrested, police said.

Acting on a tip-off about a youth spending fake notes in a market here, police said a policeman approached him pretending to be a customer seeking fake notes, and the youth returned with a bag full of Rs 100 notes, said SSP Vijay Pandey.

The notes appeared real but when police checked them, it was found that most of them had the same serial numbers, he added.

A police team then came to Talpuri Apartments here in the guise of customers and arrested Vishal Aswani and Chooramani Sahu while seizing a printer, scale, cutter and other materials they used to forge fake notes, said Pandey.

On questioning, the two told police that they only forged Rs 100 notes as they were easier to dispose off since most people checked a higher-denomination note more carefully, he added.
