German national kidnapped in Yemen

A German national was kidnapped in Sanaa, a Yemeni interior ministry official said Sunday.

The person was kidnapped from a busy street in the capital Saturday, Xinhua cited the official as saying.

Meanwhile, tribal sources said the kidnappers were from Marib province and demand Yemeni authorities to release two jailed members of their group in return of the German national.

Foreigners are frequently kidnapped in Yemen by Al Qaeda militants or tribesmen, who either ask for ransoms or the release of their jailed fellows.
