Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh on Saturday said the government will "seriously pursue" the case of a civilian airport for Itanagar.

The announcement was made after Singh met Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki here.

"Government will seriously pursue the case of a civilian airport for Itanagar," Singh, who is also the minister of state in the prime minister's office for personnel, public grievances, pensions, atomic energy and space said.

"The proposal had got delayed due to several factors including the decision regarding its exact location. Initially, Bandardawa/Karsingsa had been proposed but later the state government was of the opinion to have it at Hollangi, which is on the outskirts of Itanagar, close to the Arunachal-Assam border," he added.

Singh further said that he realised the prime need of having an airport at Arunachal Pradesh, particularly around this part of the year when the rainy season has set in but the road connectivity remains poor.
