Beirut, Dec 9 (IANS/EFE) An unknown number of members of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah were killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of Damascus over the weekend, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, SOHR, said Monday.

It said that the previous day, what are believed to be Israeli warplanes attacked and destroyed warehouses belonging to the 4th Armored Division of the Syrian Army.

Hezbollah, a key ally of the Syrian regime led by President Bashar al-Assad, stored their weapons in the facility located in the Dimas area on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus.

The London-based NGO also said that no victims were reported in a second attack Sunday near Damascus International Airport that damaged only export and import goods stored in the airport's military section, along with a small number of government weapons.

The Syrian government accused Israel of responsibility for the attacks, while the Israeli government has neither confirmed nor denied any involvement in the airstrikes.
