To attract investments, the Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday exempted new cinema houses from entertainment tax for five years.

At present, 10 per cent entertainment tax is levied on all types of entertainment.

The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, gave approval for the exemption to boost the opening of more cinema houses in the state, a government spokesperson told IANS.

He said the cabinet also decided to amend the land record manual by creating one 'kanungo' circle in every six 'patwar' circles. A total of 154 posts of 'kanungo' have been sanctioned.

In addition, it also decided to strengthen the revenue records rooms for which 148 posts of various categories were sanctioned.

To combat drug trafficking and drug abuse, the cabinet sanctioned 57 posts in State Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substance Crime Control Unit and its field units.
