Indo-Canadian stepping down as Toronto police board chairman

The Indo-Canadian chairman of Toronto Police Services Board has stepped down from his post after completing 10 years, media reported.
Alok Mukherjee announced his resignation effective from August 1, during a board meeting on Thursday, reported the Toronto Star. He served as the chairman since 2005.
Andy Pringle, the acting vice-chairman, said that Mukherjee has made "a huge contribution to policing in Toronto".
Pringle will be succeeding Mukherjee.
Mukherjee commented that police service was very different today than a decade ago in the way that it served the community and conducted business.
Emigrating from India in 1971, Mukherjee completed his Ph.D in Canada.
Over 1.2 million people of Indian origin currently reside in Canada.
