Italy calls for more resources to tackle IS' 'root causes'


City, Feb 13 (IANS/AKI) Italy's on Tuesday urged nations to invest more in preventing a resurgence of the Islamic State jihadist group by rolling out measures to address its "root causes".

"We need to safeguard our political cohesion and invest more resources to help and to eliminate any risk of Daesh making a comeback," said Alfano, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

"It's about tackling its root causes," he said.

Alfano's remarks at a meeting of the 74-member US-led global coalition against US taking place in City were relayed via the Italian Foreign Ministry's feed.

US Rex Tillerson, Kuwait's Deputy Premier and Sheikh Sabah Khaled and Turkish were among those attending the anti-IS coalition summit.
