Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport will soon get a new air traffic control tower to ensure better management of traffic, AAirport Advisory Committee chairman Saugata Roy said on Friday.

Briefing media persons after a meeting of the committee, Roy - a former union minister - said the new air traffic control tower will be set up at a cost of Rs.326 crore.

The authorities also plan to put in place a solid waster compactor station to keep the surrounding areas clean by keeping them free of garbage.

The airport, which handled around 1.09 crore passengers annually, got the "Best Improved Airport in Asia Pacific Region" award this year.
