A Gurgaon court Monday acquitted the main accused, Sumit Bhuttan, whose wife Ruchi Bhuttan died mysteriously over two years ago.

Additional District and Session Judge Falit Sharma's court acquitted businessman Bhuttan, 35. He had been booked for murder, dowry harassment and abetment of suicide.

Ruchi Bhuttan was found dead July 5, 2011 at her house in DLF Phase-2 here.

Sumit Bhuttan, his friend and actress Meera Chopra and Sumit's family members were booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. Later Chopra and Sumit's family were given a clean chit by police.

Sumit Bhuttan was arrested the day his wife died. He applied thrice for bail in district courts, twice each in the high court and in Supreme Court but was denied any relief.

The Supreme Court directed the district court to decide the case by Sep 21.

Sumit Bhuttan's family expressed happiness over the ruling Ruchi's mother Sudha Gupta and sister Preeti complained that justice had not been done.

"We will approach the high court," said Preeti Gupta.
