Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) R.P. Sharma on Tuesday emphasised the need for a serious rethink on the changing paradigm of modern policing and asked police officers to re-orient strategies to changing times.

"In today's dynamic and fast-changing world, new forms of crime like cybercrime and cybersecurity have come to the centre stage. Police needs to upgrade its skills and use modern gadgets and technology," Sharma said while addressing the 60th conference of senior police officials here.

The DGP called upon all senior officers to exhibit exemplary leadership qualities with high standards of professionalism, integrity and probity and set a new benchmark for policing in Odisha.

Sharma said it had been decided to introduce at least one model police station in each of the 30 Odisha districts.

The DGP also asked for opening of counselling centres to deal with matters related to women and children with utmost empathy.

He called upon senior police officers to continually strive to improve police-public relations and increase public confidence in police.

The DGP appreciated his officers for effective management of law and order, crime, pro-active handling of Maoists and successful conduct of festivals, sports meets and Bijepur Assembly bypoll.
