Power forward Smith joins Pistons

Former Atlanta Hawks power forward Josh Smith has joined Detroit Pistons for a $54 million contract.

The 28-year-old, who averaged 17.5 points per game last season, was set to stay in Detroit for four years, reports Xinhua.

"I feel like we can definitely be a playoff team and a contender," Smith said Wednesday.

The Pistons had been kept away from NBA playoffs for four straight seasons. Smith can play a vital role in taking the Pistons to the playoffs next season.
