A public hearing was conducted for the proposed expansion of Tata steel's ferro-manganese plant at Joda in Keonjhar district in Odisha, said officials Thursday.

"The public hearing was successful. There was no protest during the hearing. While more than 4,000 people gathered, 86 persons spoke on the occasion, 84 in favour of the expansion," said additional collector Keonjhar Sangram Keshari Swain.

Tata steel has proposed to invest Rs 185.5 crore to expand the capacity from 0.0504 million tonne per annum (MTPA) to 0.06 MTPA. There is no fresh land requirement for the expansion as it will be within 47.13 acre campus of existing Ferro-Alloys plant, said a spokesperson of the company.

The public hearing was conducted Wednesday.
