Singapore parliament dissolved ahead of poll

President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Tuesday dissolved Singapore's parliament ahead of the upcoming general election, the media reported.

According to sources, the election is expected to take place in September, Channel News Asia reported.

In the last general election, parliament was dissolved on April 19, 2011.

Singapore has a total of 89 seats in 29 constituencies - comprising 13 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) and 16 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs), the country's election commission reported.
