SPO deserts along with AK-47

A special police officer (SPO) on Saturday deserted the police force along with an AK-47 rifle as authorities sounded an alert to nab him.

Police said SPO, Showkat Ahmad, deserted the Shopian police station along with an AK-47 rifle.

"He belongs to Herman area of Shopian district. An alert has been sounded to nab him", police said.

SPOs are engaged on a fixed monthly packet in Kashmir to fight militancy. They are neither issued weapons nor trained in handling them.
