Two women patients were killed on Monday in a fire in a private hospital in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Both victims were from Budayun district and were identified as Mamta and Raj Bala.
All other patients and their attendants were rescued. The fire brigades took more than two hours to douse the flames.
A probe has been ordered to ascertain if fire fighting equipment had been installed at the hospital. "The guilty will be brought to justice," the official added.
Patients and attendants alleged that hospital officials fled after the fire broke out.
