On International Women's Day, Indian women journalists' body on Thursday commended its members for standing up to the challenges at workplace and home, saying the physical threat was never more acute as it is now.

"On the occasion of Women's Day, the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) commends all its members for facing up to the twin challenges at the workplace and the home front," it said in a statement.

"The need to face up to the realities that confront women on a day to day basis, in the form of threats to economic and physical security has never been more acutely felt. Growing violence against all women, including working women, impedes the freedoms and equality that international women's day symbolises.

"As a women's journalist organisation, we need to protect and safeguard these hard won freedoms as a collective," it added.
