Letters: 2G inferences II

If the inferences in the 2G note were not Pranab Mukherjee’s views, then why did he not say so right after the story broke? And why did he need umpteen meetings with the PM and the Congress president to make this statement? Could he not have made it immediately on his return and without any prompting? What more inferences can we draw out this?
