This refers to the report “Lok Pal bill: All-party meet fails to reach consensus” (July 4). No one expected a consensus to come out of the all-party meet. The general perception is that the political class is reluctant to have a strong anti-corruption Bill. The positive aspect of the controversy surrounding the Bill, however, is that it has provided a golden opportunity to policymakers to demonstrate their collective will and commitment to uproot corruption. They must make use of it by coming together and agreeing on neither a “draconian” nor a “toothless” but an empowered Lok Pal Bill. The controversy is unlikely to die unless this is done.
