A worker died and another sustained injuries when a big stone fell on them from the Maulaganj Hill-2 at Anjira village under Jenapur police station limits in the district today, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Tarai (25) of Sendhapur village. The seriously injured, identified as Ajay Jata (40) of Daipur village, has been admitted to the SCB Medical college and Hospital in Cuttack, where his condition was stated to be critical.
The incident took place while they were working in the Maulaganj Hill-2 stone quarry along with other workers.

Police said though the Maulaganj Hill has not been leased out to anyone for stone quarrying as it is located in the protected reserve forest area under Cuttack Forest division, some people undertook the activities illegally.
The villagers alleged the stone quarry functioning unauthorisedly and illegally was causing disturbance to their lives.
No FIR has been so far filed in this connection, said J P Panda, Inspector In-charge of Jenapur police station.
