About thirteen lakh cases are pending in various courts of Odisha and the state law department has no information about the number of ongoing cases in the Supreme Court.

This was stated by Odisha Law Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo while replying to a written question by BJP MLA Dilip Ray in the state Assembly today.

About 1,70,597 cases - 1,34,510 civil and 36,087, criminal - were pending in the Orissa High Court so far.

Sahoo said 11,16,305 cases were also pending in lower courts in the state while 8,979 cases were under consideration of different tribunals.

The minister informed the House that the total number of pending cases in different courts including the High Court stood at 12,95,881.

Outside the House, Ray alleged that the Odisha government was not serious about the state's pending cases in the Supreme Court.

"The state government had also given a similar reply on the number of state's cases pending in the Supreme Court in the previous session of the Assembly," Ray said.
