President Milos Zeman says two Czech tourists who were abducted by gunmen seven months ago as they were traveling on a bus through a troubled province in southwest Pakistan are alive and officials are negotiating in hope of getting them released.

The two women were on the road from Iran to Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's southwest Baluchistan province, when they were seized in March.

Zeman says the two are being held at an unspecified area on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Zeman spoke about the issue in a debate today with students in his hometown of Kolin, 50 kilometers east of Prague, but gave no more details.

He previously said he was in touch with his Pakistani counterpart about the case.
