2 girls gang raped by 5 youths, 2 held

Two teenaged girls were gang raped by five youths at Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum district, the police said today.

The police arrested two of the five accused today, Chakradharpur SDPO Ajay Kerketta said.

One of the five youths who was known to a victim had asked her to visit a fair held on the occasion of Janmashtami at Chakradharpur on Monday.

The tribal girl attended the fair alongwith a friend and the youth offered them to drop them at their village Ghagraghat, about 11 kms from Chakradharpur, on his motorcycle.

The SDPO said the girls, who were aged 17 and 18, agreed to the proposal.
 

However, he stopped the motorbike near a jungle, about a kilometre from the village of the girls, where four of his friends joined him and took turns to rape them.

Police were informed of the incident after the girls reached the village next morning and narrated the incident.

The statement of the two girls was recorded in a local court before they were sent for medical check up today.

Kerketta said two of the accused, including the one who took them on his motorbike, were arrested.

The identity of the three others who are on the run has been established and they would be arrested soon, he said adding it was a pre-planned crime.
