Two pro-government tribal leaders were killed and two others injured today in separate incidents when their vehicles were hit by roadside bombs in restive northwest Pakistan today, official sources said.

The administration of Bajaur Agency said that unknown miscreants targeted the vehicle of Malik Mohammad Younis, a noted elder of the Salarzai tribe with a bomb planted on roadside near Gul Shah village at Khar.

As result of the explosion, Younis was killed on the spot and his two sons Ejaz and Hazrat Noor sustained wounds. The injured were shifted to hospital.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the assailants.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

However, officials said Younis had supported the military operation against militants and was active in organising local tribes to combat them.

In a separate incident, tribal elder Malik Musanif Khan was killed in an IED blast while he was on his way home after offering prayer in Maumund Tehsil of Bajaur agency.

According to officials, he died on the spot.

Both tribal elders were supporting the operation against militants and were active in organising tribes to combat militants, officials said.
