Two RTI activists were gunned down in Bihar's Jamui district and two persons including a ruling JD(U) leader were arrested in this connection, police said today.
Valmiki Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav alias Karu Yadav were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Bichhuwe village under Sikandara police station area last evening.
The gunmen fired at them when the two were returning to Bichhuwe from Sikandara bazar. Both died on the spot.
District Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar and Superintendent of Police J Reddy visited the village today.
JD(U)'s Sikandara block president Suresh Mahto and Bichhuwe panchayat head Krishndeo Ravidas were arrested in connection with the double murder, police said.
The two have exposed financial irregularities in the public welfare schemes and developmental works of Bichhuwe Panchayat via RTI and that was probably the reason of the killing, police said adding that there was also a land dispute between Dharmendra Yadav and Suresh Mahto.
