Two undertrails lodged in the district jail here were found dead under mysterious circumstances, following which their families protested outside the jail alleging foul play in their deaths.

Two undertrials -- Pawan Aath (23) and Shibbo (25) -- were found unconscious in their barrack yesterday, official sources said adding, they had been in jail in connection with cases of loot.

After initial treatment at the jail hospital, they were rushed to the district hospital. Pawan died on the way to hospital, while Shibbo died during treatment, they added.

As soon as the families of the undertrials got the news of their death, they protested outside the district jail accusing jail officials of poisoning the two.

Mukul Vashist, one of the doctors who conducted the postmortem of the deceased, has also expressed the possibility of the two being poisoned.

Reacting to the incident, DIG (Jail) Suresh Chand, who visited the spot and talked to jail officials and the family members of the undertrials last evening, said, "The matter will be probed and action will be taken against those found guilty."

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Sumant Verma has said that a judicial magistrate inquiry will be ordered in the case.
