2 undertrials missing from Ludhiana jail, minister orders probe

Two undertrials, both brothers, have gone missing from the Central Jail since last evening, following which for jails Sukhjinder Singh ordered an inquiry into the matter.

They have been identified as Jasbir Singh and Harvinder Singh of Amloh in district, Additional of Police, Ludhiana, Surinder Lamba said today.

The two were facing trial in separate criminal cases of theft and under the NDPS Act.

The said that during a routine head-count in the jail at 8 pm on Sunday evening, the officials found the two prisoners missing.

The jail authorities immediately informed the police.

Investigations are in progress, Lamba said.

Taking serious note of the incident, Jail Sukhjinder Singh ordered a probe into it and directed the IG (Jail) to submit a report in two days.

In a statement in Chandigarh today, said fleeing of the prisoners from the jail is a very serious matter and warned of strict action against anyone found responsible for it.
