A Sri Lankan court has ordered the release of 26 fishers from Karaikal, arrested by the island's Navy last month, according to information received by the fishermen association here today.
Judicial Magistrate Court in Oorkavalthurai ordered the release of the fishermen arrested on April 5, Innocent Fishermen's Association President Arulanandham said.
Earlier, the remand of the fishermen was extended four times since their arrest for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters, a charge denied by the former.
The fishermen were expected to arrive here tonight or tomorrow.
