Delhi Police have arrested three persons allegedly involved in the theft of a dozen buffaloes from a dairy in Aman Vihar area of outer Delhi in May, a senior officer said today.

The accused -- Nusrat (35), Mohammadd Ishrar (30) and Mehboob (32) -- were arrested yesterday, Additional DCP of Outer Delhi Ghanshaym Bansal said.

The buffaloes, valued at around Rs 15 lakh, were stolen from a dairy run by Satish Kumar in Lakhi Ram Park locality on May 16, following which a case was registered at Aman Vihar police station.

In search for the buffaloes, police formed several groups that inspected dairies and slaughter houses in Delhi and screened dump data details but to no avail.

Subsequently, a dedicated team of six policemen, led by an inspector, was formed to trace the stolen buffaloes and arrest the culprits. The team camped in Western Uttar Pradesh for 20 days and searched slaughter houses in Meerut, Bulandshahr and Noida but drew a blank again.

Later, they were tipped off about Mehboob who runs a slaughter house in Gali Kasai Wali in Nangloi. Initially he tried to mislead the policemen but later spilled the beans and confessed to stealing the buffaloes and slaughtering them along with his accomplices -- Nusrat, Israr, Sehzaad, Wasim and Ibrar, the police officer said.

Efforts are on to nab the absconding accused, the officer added.
