Tension gripped Pattan town on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road in Kashmir after a youth was arrested on charges of stone-pelting, leading to violent protests in the area, in which three policemen were injured.
Nazir Ahmad was arrested by police last night for his involvement in several incidents of stone-pelting in Palhalan area of the town, 30 kms from here, police said.
They said Ahmad's arrest resulted in violent protests by a group of local youth, who started pelting stones at police.

Three policemen were injured in the clashes which continued till late last night, sources said adding police fired teargas shells to restore order in the area.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in large numbers this morning to maintain law and order, they said.
The sources said the situation in the area has remained peaceful so far.
