Three alleged drug peddlers, hailing from Punjab, were arrested along with 30 kg of a narcotic substance in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said here today.

Rawal Singh, Kamaljeet and Chanderpal were walking towards Qazigund toll post yesterday, when they were intercepted by a search party at Dalwach Morh, 80 km from here on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, a police spokesperson said.

"They were carrying two sports bags and one mattress. On checking, 30 kg fukki (poppy straw) was recovered from the bags and the mattress," he said, adding "It seems to be a new mode of smuggling fukki outside the Valley."

The accused hailed from Balachawl-Nowashera and Chakajipur-Hoshyarpur areas of Punjab.

A case under NDPS Act was registered against them and further investigations are on, the spokesperson added.
