Three gangsters, who were planning to commit some heinous offences, were today arrested following a brief encounter with police here, a senior official said.
Acting on a tip off, a barricade was laid under the supervision of SSP, Ropar, Varinderpal Singh. At a police barricade at Khanpur Khuhi on the Garhshankar-Anandpur Sahib road a car in which the gangsters were travelling was signaled to stop. The gang members opened fire on the police and the police party returned the fire," a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said that gangster Manpreet Singh, Batala was injured and taken into police custody. The others escaped under the cover of darkness.

However, a cordon was laid and extensive searches were conducted in the area and subsequently two more gangsters-- Joga Singh of village Kot Maulvi, Batala and Pavitar Singh of village Chaure, Batala, were nabbed.
A Ropar-based key member of the gang, Malkit Singh alias Mika has also been arrested, the spokesman said.
Two weapons, including one .32 bore revolver and one pistol have been recovered.
A case under various sections of the IPC and the Arms Act has been registered at Nurpur Bedi police station here.
Further investigations were going on, he said.
