A 16-year-old girl and her parents were stabbed and shot dead allegedly by two of their family members, apparently over the minor's relationship with a youth here, police said today.
Two youths Rakesh Kumar and Sonu Kumar dragged out their cousin sister from home and stabbed her multiple times last night before shooting her to death with a weapon in an apparent disapproval of her alleged love affair with a college mate, Superintendent of Police (SP) Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said.
Upon hearing cries of the victim, a first year college student, her parents Vakil Singh Yadav (50) and Anita Devi (45) rushed out to rescue her, but the assailants, fatally attacked them by first stabbing the two before firing upon them with the same weapon, he said.
While Anita Devi died on the spot, her husband succumbed to injuries on way to Sadar Hospital, Dhillon said.
The deceased couple's 10 year-old son Sahil watched the horror of their parents and sister being murdered by cousin brothers, the SP said.
A murder case has been registered against the accused who were absconding with weapons, he said.
