3 of family killed in road mishap in UP

Three of a family, including a woman, were today killed and another woman injured when a truck hit the car they were travelling in on Delhi-Pauri national highway 119 here, police said.

The incident occurred this evening when the family was on its way to Mirapur to Najibabad, they said.

Amroha-resident Rajeev Shukla, his uncle Munnu Sharma and his aunt Suman Devi were killed in the mishap while his wife was injured, police said, adding that she was rushed to a hospital in Meerut.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and suspended engineers concerned for "failing to maintian the upkeep of the bridge as the jeep fell into the river because of broken railing".
 

He also ordered lodging of an FIR against them (engineers concerned), an official release issued here said.
