4 Maoists awarded life imprisonment in Bihar

Four Maoists were today sentenced by a Rohtas district court to life imprisonment while another ultra was awarded a 10-year jail term in connection with the murder of a forest officer 15 years ago.

District judge Prabhunath Singh passed the order and awarded life imprisonment to Nirala Yadav, Lalan Singh Kharwar, Rambachan Yadav and Nitish Yadav.

A penalty of Rs 2 lakh was also imposed on them after finding them guilty of murdering divisional forest officer Sanjay Kumar.

The judge awarded 10 years imprisonment to fifth accused, Sudama Uraon, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). A penalty of Rs 5,000 was also imposed on him.
 

The court had on June 21 convicted all the five Maoists under Sections of POTA, Arms Act and various sections of the IPC.

Singh was kidnapped and taken to Rehal area in Kaimur forests by the Maoists and gunned down on February 15, 2002.

The state government had subsequently handed over the probe to the CBI.
