Four persons, including a labour contractor, have been arrested for allegedly severing the palms of two labourers from Kalahandi district in Odisha, police said today.
The accused persons, who belong to Khariar area in Nuapada district, were arrested after thorough interrogation, Kalahandi Superintendent of Police Sarthak Sarangi and his Nuapada counterpart Umashankar Dash told reporters here.
While one of them was arrested yesterday, the rest four were formally arrested today, police said.

Sarangi said those arrested include labour contractor Parbesh Duni. Others identified as Bana Majhi, Baikuntha Rout, Arjun Bhoi and Gangadhar Dash, are labour agents, middlemen and accomplices of the labour contractor. All the arrested accused belong to Kotmal village of Nuapada district.
A case has been registered against the accused persons under Sections 342, 323, 326, 307, 387, 120(b) and 34 IPC.
The IPC sections pertain to punishment for wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerours weapons, attempt to murder, extortion on pain of death and criminal conspiracy among others.
