5 kg poppy straw recovered, accused held in J-K

A suspected drug peddler was arrested after five kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from his possession in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Rahul Sharma, a resident of Pakhlai village, was arrested on a specific information from Udhampur district town, a police official said.

He said that Sharma was moving under suspicious circumstances when he was intercepted by the police. A search led to the recovery of huge quantity of poppy straw.

A case has been registered at Udhampur Police Station and further investigation taken up, the official said.
