5 pilgrims killed, 40 injured in road mishap

Five pilgrims were killed while 40 others suffered injuries when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Thana Chapper area here, police said today.
The devotees were going to Kapalmochan mela (fair) from Bathinda when the mishap occurred last evening on NH-73, they said, adding that the driver of the heavy vehicle was trying to avoid collision with a car.
The victims aged between 25 and 35 years.
The injured, which include women and children, have been admitted to various hospitals where the condition of most of them is stated to be out of danger.
